Sustainability

When reading into Social Responsibility, one of the topics that is frequently referred to is sustainability. The following reading has been carried out to gather a better understanding of sustainability and design. This is one of the areas proposed in the first CoP 3 proposal.

Social Responsibility

Through researching social responsibility in design, the following case study examples have been explored. This could be a possible direction in which to focus on for the critical investigation.

Reading in this area has also provided a general understanding of the topic and the origins of where the term 'social responsibility' began/the graphic design that it can describe.

It is my opinion that graphic designers do have a social responsibility however this may not be seen by others.

Research

Following the feedback given on the proposal the following areas are going to be explored to better my understanding of 'good' and how graphic design has altered and the influences behind this; Morality, sustainability, consumerism, environmentalism and social responsibility.

Ethics: A Graphic Designer's Field Guide

This book provides theory and overview information into the ethics in design. This has provided some interesting directions of exploration, such as the life cycle of practice. Do all designers consider this cycle when designing? If so, why? If not, why?
